Die Trilogie heiĂt "It's What I'm Thinking".
Schneeflocken fotografieren.
Aus den fallenden Schneeflocken des ersten Albums kristallisiert sich ein weiteres Bild: das eines Badly Drawn Boy, der mit dem Erwachsensein klarkommt â "Throw me to the lions, make me a man" singt er in "The Order Of Things" und "All I ask is you treat me like a man" auf "You Lied". Und es scheint auch eine Zeit der Reflektion und des Neubewertens gekommen zu sein: "Well for a while I thought it was amazing, and I still think you're the one", singt er auf "A Pure Accident". "I know you will forgive me, for the things that I've done wrong, I'm sorry I never liked your favourite song."
Badly Drawn Boy hat bis jetzt vier Studioalben veröffentlicht â den Mercury-Gewinner "The Hour of the Bewilderbeast" (2000), "Have You Fed The Fish?" (2002), "One Plus One Is One" (2004) und "Born In The UK" (2006). AuĂerdem zwei Filmsoundtracks, fĂŒr die Nick Hornby-Verfilmung "About A Boy" (2002) und "Is There Nothing We Could Do?" (2009, fĂŒr den Caroline Aherne Film "The Fattest Man In Britain").
IT'S WHAT I'M THINKING PT.1 - PHOTOGRAPHING SNOWFLAKES
Track by track by Damon Gough â in his won words:
In Safe Hands: âItâs based on a relationship ending. People always think the songs are about me, but theyâre not always, theyâre often about other people.â
The Order of Things: âI really love this song. It typifies my writing, itâs unconventional and follows a cyclical melody like Once Around The Block did.â
Too Many Miracles: âItâs kind of a sister song to All Possibilities, about me being so lucky that so many good things are happening in my life. It was more guitar driven like The Byrds at first, then we put strings on it and it went in more of a Spector direction.â
What Tomorrow Brings: âItâs probably the most simple, classic song Iâve ever written. I can even see Susan Boyle or Andrea Bocelli singing it, or it being our Eurovision entryâ
I Saw You Walk Away: âThis is a key song for me, I think itâs the best song Iâve ever written. It reminds me a bit of There Is A Light That Never Goes Out, although that is the best Smiths song, so Iâm bigging myself up a bit there.â
Itâs What Iâm Thinking: âI wanted the title track to be long and rambling, to emphasise, as the lyric says, âI know itâs isnât much, but itâs what Iâm thinkingâ.â
You Lied: âI wrote this at home and recorded a demo on my iPhone. Itâs so simple really, but ended up a bit Fleetwood Mac when I added the harmonies.â
A Pure Accident: âI wrote the basis of this on the same day as 'You Lied'. Itâs about peopleâs struggles with relationships, how theyâre too busy looking at other options to commit.â
This Electric: âProbably the oldest song of mine Iâve ever recorded. I wrote it in â94 and it reminds me of listening to bands like Flaming Lips and Beck. Itâs almost my take on hip-hop - not rapping, but an attitude. The riff is similar to Cause A Rockslide on my debut.â
This Beautiful Ideas: âOne of those songs that came almost fully formed. Itâs a song about confusion really, and itâs got the line âMadonna singing Borderlineâ which is the second time Iâve referenced Madonna in lyrics.â
